Filmed on a early august morning in 1976 by French director Claude Lelouch
who mounted a gyro stabilised camera to a car (rumoured to be a Ferrari 275 GTB)
and had it driven by an unknown Formula One driver at high speed through the
streets of Paris jumping red lights, going up one streets the wrong way
and nearly hitting real pedestrians!
Claude Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit, so No streets were closed.
What you see in the film are real vehicles and pedestrians.
On showing this film, Lelouch was rumoured to have been arrested.
Due to technical reasons, Lelouch only had 10 minutes of filming but completed
the 10.42 km long route (reaching speeds of up to 140 km/h) in under 9 minutes.
Many myths and rumours surround this film, Was the car really a Ferrari 275 GTB or
Lelouch’s own Mercedes? - Did Lelouch drive the car or was it a Formula One driver?
Was he really arrested? And how did he do it?
Who really knows? C'était un Rendezvous is a great piece of film to watch!
